The Opening Banquet for the biennial CSSA Convention will be held at The Huntington. Those desiring transportation to the Huntington will be carried by bus from Pitzer to the Huntington. We will enjoy a brief walk through the beautiful new Steven S. Koblik Visitor and Education Center. Dinner on the Lawn and then into Rothenberg Hall for opening remarks and the Keynote Speech by Dr. James P. Folsom, the Telleen/Jorgenson Director of the Botanical Gardens at The Huntington.
This evening promises to be a highlight of the Convention. Dr. Folsom (Jim as we all know him) has been the Director of the Botanical Gardens since 1991. Jim received his PhD in botany from the University of Texas at Austin. His tenure at The Huntington has seen many wonderful changes in the Gardens. Jim was the overseer of raising more than $40 million which resulted in the construction of the Botanical Center (opened in 2000), as well as the Children’s Garden (opened June 2004) and the Rose Hills Foundation Conservatory for Botanical Science (opened October 2005). The new Chinese Gardens and renovation of other gardens at The Huntington are among his credits.
